08/26/08 --- MARLIN, Texas, Aug. 26—Global Rail Systems, Inc. (www.globalrailsystems.com), a Marlin, Texas-based railroad automation company, said today that the U.S. Patent Office has granted it a patent for its FAS-PAS™ (Fail Safe Audible Signal - Power Activated Switch) power switch control system. The patent specifically covers GRS’s method of controlling and indicating the position of an approaching switch in dark (unsignaled) territory.

“This patent is important to Global Rail Systems as it validates and protects the methodology behind our FAS-PAS™ technology in this competitive environment,” said GRS CEO Tom Schlosser. “More important,” he added, “FAS-PAS provides railroads with a more cost-effective switch control system than traditional systems. It also provides an efficient method to prevent accidents and injuries in dark territory. It’s a winning announcement for everyone and we’re proud of it.”

FAS-PAS™ enables train crews and dispatchers in dark territory to control an approaching switch and line it for the position desired and receive vital confirmation. This can be accomplished either by the train crew through the existing radio network, or by a central dispatch or control center. Global Rail Systems manufactures and supplies the railroad, transit and industrial railroad markets with advanced railroad technology products for mainline switch control, yard switch control and automation, crossing warning systems, train detection technology and advanced control and dispatching software.
