FAS-PAS Lite™

FAS-PAS Lite™
Failsafe Switch Point Position Indicator for
Hand Throw Switches

Definition

Global Rail Systems Patent Pending FAS-PAS Lite™ is a combination of railroad operating rules and advanced technology applied to dark territory hand throw switch operations to provide advanced switch point position indications audibly, visually or both.

Utilization of the FAS-PAS Lite™ technology will improve safety and efficiencies involving hand throw switch operations.

Point Detection System

In a FAS-PAS Lite™ system, redundancy of critical inputs provides for fail safe outputs. When using a 22E or 36 Racor hand throw switch, we provide our “Shelf” proximity sensor detection system or a switch circuit controller.

The Communication System

In a FAS-PAS Lite™ system, the communication system provided depends on how the Railroad wants to monitor the switch. Global Rail Systems provides either a DTMF module to work with the existing locomotive radio or a data radio to be monitored by a dispatcher. The FAS-PAS Lite™ system can utilize any of the existing serial data protocols that the railroad industry is currently using such as ATCS, Genesis, DT4, DT8, MCS1, etc.

The FAS-PAS Lite™ system can utilize telephone modems or fiber optic modems as other means of integrating into a communications network. Once the communications link is established, the system will provide normal, reverse, or out of correspondence point position indication, and OS occupancy to the office system.

Point Position Indication

There are multiple methods available for conveying switch point position indication to the traincrew. The system is designed to provide audible and/or visual indications to the traincrew or remote indications to a dispatcher office system. These are accomplished through the use of either a DTMF VHF/UHF radio or a data radio.
In the FAS-PAS Lite™ system that utilizes switch position indication via DTMF tones, Global Rail Systems can provide up to three (3) distinct methods for indicating switch point position.

Logic Controller with Event Logging

The system design, where applicable, uses the Global Logic Controller (GLC) to process all queries, logic, timers and event logging. This method of operation provides an affordable system that is accepted as a fail safe control point. The use of the GLC also allows for a broadcast feature which will send an automatic warning of a switch position being out of correspondence without being queried.

Optional Over the Switch Zone Detection System (OS)

The optional O/S zone detection circuit utilizes a two wire audio frequency overlay track circuit for the detection of occupancy and triggers the event log of the occupancy with a date and time stamp. It can also provide occupancy information to a central control location with the data radio set up.

System Components

Great care has been taken to ensure the highest quality railroad proven components for the system in all areas. Reliability, safety, durability and value are the key considerations for the selection of all components.
