Model EPSL (Patent pending)

EPSL with hollow steel tie

The Global Rail Systems redundant external spring point holding force device, the Model EPSL was developed to provide redundant spring holding force and redundant point position detection. When used in conjunction with a power operated spring switch machine the device provides an additional 2000lbs of spring holding force on the opposite switch point from the switch machine. This system minimizes the opportunity for a switch component failure to lessen the spring holding forces, go undetected and cause a serious situation.

The system also allows the railroad to achieve redundant switch point position detection without the use of a switch circuit controller. The EPSL uses two NPN proximity sensors secured to an adjustable bracket that is mounted above the spindle and crank. A target positioned on the crank moves from one sensor to the other following the movement of the switch points. With the power switch machine and EPSL installed together, the outputs from both the switch machine point detection system and the point detection system in the EPSL must be synchronized or the switch machine will be locked out electronically from being thrown.

The power spring switch machine and EPSL systems working together provide any operation the safest, most reliable, most cost effective method for achieving redundancy in switch point position detection and redundant spring holding force.
